Our Pathologists
Our group currently consists of eleven board certified pathologists who have subspecialty training in all the major areas of anatomic and clinical pathology.

Andrew Sloman, M.D.
Lizardo Cerezo, M.D.
Dr. Cerezo is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Hematology. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Department of Pathology as well as Medical Director for the Clinical Laboratories at ORMC and Sand Lake Hospital. He is also part of the Medical Staff Executive Committee for Sand Lake Hospital. Besides hematology and transfusion medicine, Dr. Cerezo has special interest in renal biopsy pathology and electron microscopy. He oversees the Electron Microscopy Laboratory at ORMC and provides consultation services for numerous hospitals, both in state and out of state.
Dr. Cerezo attended medical school at the University of Puerto Rico. He completed his internship and residency training at the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, CO. Dr. Cerezo joined the Pathology Department at ORMC in 1981.

Ray Franklin, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Franklin is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He also holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology. Dr. Franklin is currently Chairman of the Department of Pathology, Director of Microbiology for all ORHS facilities and Medical Director for the Clinical Laboratory at Lucerne Hospital.
Dr. Franklin attended medical school at the University of Texas where he had already obtained his Ph.D. in Microbiology. He continued his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Duke University in Durham, NC. Dr. Franklin has been with the Pathology Department at ORMC since 1986.

Orlando Gonzalez, M.D.
Dr. Gonzalez is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Pediatric Pathology. He is Director of Anatomic Pathology at ORMC, Medical Director for Point of Care Testing at ORHS and Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratory at Arnold Palmer Hospital.
Dr. Gonzalez completed medical school at the Universidad de Zaragoza in Spain. He continued his training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Texas. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Gonzalez joined the Pathology Department at ORMC in 1989.

Shuan Li, M.D.
Dr. Li is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and has additional training in the area of Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology. Dr. Li is Director of the Residency Training Program in Pathology at ORHS. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee for the Florida Society of Pathologists.
Dr. Li attended medical school at the 4th Military Medical University in Xian, Shaanxi, China. He subsequently completed his post-doctorate training and a fellowship in Biochemistry and Molecular Pathology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He completed his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Ohio State University Medical Center and then continued his training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD where he did a fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology. Dr. Li was Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of Vermont before joining Pathology Specialists in 2002.

Gary Pearl, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Pearl is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Neuropathology. He has special interest in immunology and currently oversees the Immunology Laboratory at ORMC. Dr. Pearl also provides consultation services for Neuropathology, Autopsy, and Muscle/Nerve cases for both in-state and out-of-state clients. He is currently a consulting neuropathologist for the District 9 Medical Examiners office.
Dr. Pearl attended medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he also obtained his Ph.D. degree in Anatomy. He stayed at Emory to complete his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as fellowship training in both Neuropathology and Immunopathology. He remained at Emory as an attending Neuropathologist, Clinical Immunologist, and Assistant Professor of Pathology.
Dr. Pearl has served as Chairman of the College of American Pathologists Neuropathology Committee. He has numerous publications within the fields of Neuropathology and Surgical Pathology. Dr. Pearl is currently active on local committees dealing with Alzheimer's research and is a former member of the Executive Committee for the Florida Society of Pathologists.
Dr. Pearl joined the Pathology Department at ORMC in 1985. He served as Director of the Residency Training Program in Pathology for 12 years.

Andrew Sloman, M.D.
Dr. Sloman is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and has additional training in the area of Oncologic Pathology. He has special interest in breast and genitourinary pathology. Dr. Sloman is currently Director of the Chemistry Laboratory at ORMC and Medical Director for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Laboratory. Dr. Sloman also oversees Pathology Department participation for the numerous teaching conferences held within the Cancer Center each week.
Dr. Sloman attended medical school at the University of Virginia followed by an Internal Medicine internship at the University of Iowa. He completed his training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh and then went on to complete a fellowship in Oncologic Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Dr. Sloman joined Pathology Specialists in 1999.
